The War of the twins, book TWO of the shattered earth chronicles
What is the last thing that I can remember? At first there was nothing, but Emrys refused to give up. Slowly his last memories began to leisurely drift through his consciousness. Suddenly and without warning, the image of a gigantic stone bridge flashed through his brain. Riftbridge! Emrys blinked and found himself standing on the ancient structure that once spanned the vast chasm known as the Rift.
Everything was quiet as Emrys gazed out across the ancient bridge. As he stood and looked, a gentle breeze blew across his skin. Emrys looked up at the cloudless sky; the sun was nearly directly overhead. He shaded his eyes and then looked down at his hands. “Is this real?” he asked aloud, the sound of his voice surprising him. Emrys felt his hands and his chest. “I don’t understand. What happened?” The day felt warm, just as it had when they fought to rescue Aiden.
The moment the word “fought” entered his mind, Emrys suddenly became aware that he was standing in the middle of a fierce battle, almost as though it had been conjured out of thin air. All around him, the deafening sounds of war raged. Emrys gazed across the battlefield, taking in the carnage.
In one of the many Shard Earths that inhabit the Shattered Earth universe, it has been but a few months since the Battle of Riftbridge, and Aiden is still prisoner of the malicious Zaphon. After making a deal with Zaphon that causes utter chaos, Aiden escapes and flees through the city, where a member of the growing resistance shelters him.
Aiden’s younger siblings, twins Emma and Emrys, seek a healer. Emma spends her time studying the Sword Dance, a secretive martial art under the tutelage of her mentor. Emrys soon awakens, and when he does, shares a vision. This vision seems to coincide with a prophecy about the coming of three champions from another world …
Of course, those who would cruelly seek to rule are not happy to hear this, more afraid than ever of Aiden and his siblings. Zaphon has begun an invasion of all the lands south of the Rift, and Aiden will need all the members of the resistance to help him win the fight against evil. Aiden’s family may have won battles in the past, but the game has changed. It will take all their strength and goodness to be victorious again.

“Yes, sir. My brother and sister and I are visiting our grandparents,” Aiden replied through the mental fog.
“Oh, and I’ll bet you are having a lot of fun, aren’t you.” The voice sounded vaguely feminine. “Are you climbing trees and fun stuff like that?”
“A little. We explored the woods yesterday,” Aiden replied. Something deep inside him was screaming that he was in danger and that he needed to run away. But for some reason, his body wouldn’t respond to what his mind was yelling. “Did you find the pond?” The voice abruptly changed and now sounded brutish and angry.
“Pond?” Aiden asked, knowing exactly what the thing before him was asking.
The voice changed abruptly, sounding soft again but different from how it had at first. “I’m sorry. We can get excited sometimes. It’s just that a long, long time ago, we used to know your grandparents. I know that we look far younger than they do, but once upon a time, we were actually quite good friends with them. We used to go hiking in the woods behind their house all the time and even found our very own special spot. It’s a strange, circular pool out in the middle of nowhere.”
How does this thing know who Grandma and Grandpa are? I never said who they were! Did I?
Zaphon, an evil and powerful tyrant, sets into motion a plan that he has been hatching for millennia. The earth is not what it seems. Long ago, near the dawn of time, the earth was shattered into countless shards of itself, each separated by a veil so thin that it can sometimes be pierced.
Zaphon knows this quite well, and using dark, arcane arts he has caused fourteen-year-old Aiden to tumble though this veil from one world into another. Monstrous creatures capture Aiden, and he sees no way of escape.
Now, Aiden’s younger brother and sister, twins Emma and Emrys, must find new friends and allies as they race against time to free their brother from Zaphon’s clutches. If they do not succeed, Zaphon’s wicked wish will come true, and the world will fall into darkness.
